MLB: Roberts Report (July 4th)

The Roberts Report reflects the very opinionated view of it’s author, KC Roberts. Not to be mistake for your traditional Power Rankings, the Roberts Report reflects KC’s personal rankings of the teams. That is not to say that he is not subjective (the Blue Jays, Raptors, and Cowboys won’t be #1 every time) but he may not agree with the popular belief. If you don’t agree or think that someone should be higher or lower let us know in the comments.
It is almost the All Star break and we haven’t even released one version of the Roberts Report so far this season. It has been an up and down year so far with many surprise teams jumping into the lead early on. But now the dust has settled and it seems that order has returned, the Yankees and Red Sox are on top and the KC Royals are back to playing sub .500 baseball. The Roberts Report will usually be released every Wednesday, but since we have deprived you of one so far this year we thought, what the heck. So her she is, let us know what you think in the comments:
1) LA Dodgers (51-29): The best team in baseball already and now they get Manny back. It’s almost not fair.
2) NY Yankees: (46-33): They are 2nd in the AL East behind the Red Sox but have won 8 of their last 10. Their starting pitching is finally looking good minus Wang.
3) Boston Red Sox: (48-31): You know your having a good year when Tim Wakefield and Brad Penny, their 4th and 5th pitchers, are a combined 16-6.
4) St. Louis Cardinals: (44-38): After a brief slide the Cardinals have won 3 straight thanks to the hitting of Pujols and the pitching of Wainwright.
5) LA Angels (43-35): They are 1-3 since the Ultimate Team Rankings said they were the #1 team in American sports…
6) Chicago White Sox (42-38): Don’t look now, but Guillen and the Sox are 9-1 in their last 10.
7) Detroit Tigers (44-35): Young arms Porcello and Jackson have been a pleasent surprise.
8 ) Texas Rangers (43-35): They are bankrupt and need a new owner, but they are playing some damn good baseball. And Hamilton isn’t even back yet.
9) Tampa Bay Rays (44-37): Yes, there are 3 AL East teams in the top 10 and only 3 NL teams. The NL (minus LA) is not good, deal with it.
10) Colorado Rockies (42-37): Their streak when they won 17 of 18 is over, but they are still playing great baseball. Cook looks to win his 6th straight today.
11) San Fransisco Giants (43-36): The post Bonds era is going pretty good for the Giants. A big part is thanks to last year’s Cy Young winner and this year’s early favorite, Tim Lincecum.
12) Toronto Blue Jays (42-39): Burst out of the gates but have eased up recently. Toronto is doomed by their geographic location. Not the north, the east which puts them in the same division as Boston, NY, and Tampa.
13) Milwaukee Brewers (42-38): Fielder has been on fire but the pitching, minus Gallardo, has been average at best.
14) Chicago Cubs (39-38): Have won 3 straight but with the way the Cubs have been playing this year it will likely be followed by a 4 game losing streak.
15) Seattle Mariners (41-38): Griffey’s return and Ichiro’s continued success have been the big stories in Seattle. But I think the biggest thing to happen in Seattle this year has to be King Felix looking like the superstar he was destined to be.
16) Philadelphia Phillies (40-37): Last year’s World Series MVP Hamels and the rest of the rotation have struggled this season. Are they just waiting for the playoffs? ‘Cause they might not make it the way they are playing.
17) Minnesota Twins (41-40): Who is even on this team other than Morneau and Mauer?
18) Cincinnati Reds (39-39): Joey Votto is a superstar in the making on a young talented team. Dickerson, Phillips, Votto, and Bruce make up the core of the Reds and are all 28 or younger.
19) Atlanta Braves (39-40): The Braves are almost done the rebuilding process. Chipper and Anderson are the only everyday starters over 27.
20) Florida Marlins (41-40): Dan Uggla is the oldest player in the lineup/rotation, he is 29! If the Marlins find a way to keep this team together for 3-4 more years they will be the best team in baseball, easily.
21) Baltimore Orioles (36-44): The worst team in the AL East, might be at .500 in any other league. Matt Wieters, their future star, has been hot recently.
22) NY Mets (39-40): With all their talent they should be in the top 10. Most disappointing team in baseball.
23) Pittsburgh Pirates (37-43): They have traded every good player they have ever had. Yet they are still somehow winning games.
24) Houston Astros (38-40): Houston – were over the top past All Stars meet to make a mediocre team.
25) San Diego Padres (34-45): Gonzalez has come back down to earth and their best pitcher, Peavy, is only 6-6. Bad season for the Padres.
26) Oakland Athletics (33-45): With another year below .500 is it safe to say that sabermetrics isn’t the only answer.
27) Cleveland Indians (32-49): Get Grady Sizemore out! One of my favorite players is toiling away on an awful team.
28) KC Royals (33-46): Take Grienke off this team and they are battling with the Nationals for the worst team in the majors.
29) Arizona Diamondbacks (31-49): Remember when Chris Young, Justin Upton, and Carlos Quentin were supposed be the bright future of this team? What happened?
30) Washington Nationals (23-55): 2nd straight year with the worst record in the league. They will need more than just Strausburg to turn this franchise around.
