A daily article from KC Roberts discussing the games from the night before. Featuring a game of the night, 5 other games from each sport, and suggestions of what to watch today.

Game of the Night

LA Dodgers 4   Colorado Rockies 2

Player of the game: Ubaldo Jimenez – Jimenez had on bad inning in the 5th but other than that inning Jimenez pitched a gem and kept his team in the game through the 7th. Stat Line: 7 innings, 5 H, 1 BB, 4 SO, 2 ER, Win

X Factor: Who Jimenez’s one slip up against? His fellow pitcher Randy Wolf who hit a game tying 2 run single after giving up 2 runs in the top of that very inning.

Play of the game: Whats more fun to watch than a walk off homer? I was half asleep last night desperately trying to stay up for the end of the game but failed. I think I passed out somewhere in the 10th (I live on the east coast) but was awoken by the loud yells of the Dodgers announcer when Andre Ethier hit his game winner. So I assume that was the highlight.

Turning Point: Jimenez was given the lead in the top of the 5th but couldn’t get his counter part Wolf out. The Dodgers would go on to win the game in the 12th but it was the pitchers heroics in the 5th that changed the game for LA.

MLB:

Brewers 10   Mets 6

Importance: The headaches continue for Mets fans after getting swept by the Yankees. I dont understand how such a talented team can always fuck up so consistently.

Player of the Game: JJ Hardy – 4 for 4, 2 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 RBI, 2 R

Turning Point: Casey McGehee’s grand slam in the 6th put the Brewers ahead for good, then is a strange move by the manager he was quickly replaced by pitcher Stetter. Whaaa?

Cubs 3   Pirates 1

Importance: Cubs try to get back on track. Lou and Bradley make up and Harden gets going in Chicago.

Player of the Game: Rich Harden – 7 innings, 9 H, 1 BB, 9 SO, 1 ER, Win

When it was over: Bradley’s double pushed the lead to 3. That would be enough with Harden on the mound.

Giants 10   Cardinals 0

Importance: Lincecum throws another gem. BLB explain that for some reason females like skinny anorexic men. Goodbye gym, hello salads and fingers in my mouth.

Player of the Game: Tim Lincecum – 9 innings, 2 H, 8 SO, 0 ER, CG Win

When it was over: When Timmy boy took the mound. Cy Young guaranteed?

Royals 4   Twins 2

Importance: The Royals win without Greinke on the mound?!?

Player of the Game: Miguel Olivo – 3 for 4, 1 3B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R

The Rally that Almost was: Morneau hit a 2 run home run in the 8th. It felt like they actually had a chance to come back but then I realized it was the Twins.

Astros 3   Padres 1

Importance: The only time a game against the Padres will ever make the morning after, a CG gem from Oswalt.

Player of the Game: Roy Oswalt – 9 innings, 2 H, 2 BB, 8 SO, 1 ER, CG Win

Turning Point: the 5th and 6th innings when the Astros scored all their runs and erased the Padres lead.

Soccer:

Germany 4   England 0

Importance: I was so fucking close to finally getting a prediction right. Alas both my heritage and pride got shit kicked yesterday.

Player of the Game: Sandro Wagner – 2 goals

Turning Point: After the first 20 minutes, which England dominating, Castro scored and England never looked the same.

Tennis:

- Roger dominates his French Open finals opponent, Soderling, on grass. Will anyone challenge Federe before the semis? 6-4, 7-6, 7-6

- Tommy Haas wins his match after playing one of the longest matches in Wimbledon history two days before. 7-6, 6-4, 6-4

- Lleyton Hewitt is back after defeated Sapanek in 5 sets! Hewitt was down two sets early but came back and won 18 of the next 23 sets. 4-6, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2

- Ferrero upsets the 8th seeded Simon in the 4th round. After the first set went to a tie break Ferrero took over and won the next two easily. 7-6. 6-3, 6-2

- Radwanska beat Oudin, the surprising US hopeful, in straight sets (not actually impressive in female tennis). Oudin was the the only reason I even considered watching the womens draw. If you enjoy moaning women and inferior competition tune in, I won’t be. 6-4, 7-5

Watch to watch today:

Angels/Rangers @ 8:05 pm

Dodgers/Rockies @ 10:10 pm
