The Morning After: feat. 500 saves!

A daily article from KC Roberts discussing the games from the night before. Featuring a game of the night and 5 other games from each sport.
Game of the Night
New York Yankees 4 New York Mets 2
Player of the game: Mariano Rivera – Rivera did it all in this game. First he closed out the 8th inning, then when forced to hit in the 9th he walked in a run (the first of his career), and finally closed out the game in the bottom of the ninth for his 500th save. All in all not a bad night for the Sandman Stat Line: 1.1 innings, 1 H, 2 SO, 0ER, Save… RBI!
X Factor: Chien-Ming Wang – Wang was quite possibly the worst pitcher in the league so far. But don’t look now, Wang is 1-6 after the win last night!
Play of the game: While there were probably better plays, Rivera’s bases loaded walk RBI was easily the most entertaining.
Turning Point: K Rod couldn’t control his pitches and lost the battle of the closers.

Player of the Game: Tommy Hanson – 6 innings, 2 H, 2 BB, 2 SO, 0 ER, Win
Turning Point: In a pretty boring offensive game Garret Anderson’s home run in the 4th was the game winner.
Importance: A favorite of yours truly, Liriano continues to return to his ‘06 form after a few bad seasons.
Player of the Game: Fransisco Liriano – 7 innings, 4 H, 2 BB, 6 SO, 2 ER, Win

Turning Point: Despite eventually losing, Mphela’s second goal 2 minutes into extra time might have been one of the most exciting things I have ever seen.
Player of the Game: Luis Fabiano – 2 goals
Turning Point: With the momentum in Brazils favor, Lucio buried the corner for the game winner in the 83rd minute.
