NBA: Ricky Rubio Pulling a John Elway?

It is looking like my ignorance is paying off. After releasing the first version of my mock draft I was torn apart for dropping Ricky Rubio down from the 2nd pick to the 4th, mostly (only) by fellow trueball author TM Williamson. Well look who’s right now TM! Only one day after the madness that was the lottery Rubio has announced that he refuses to play for either Memphis or OK City. I understand where Rubio is coming from, OK City and Memphis aren’t exactly the nicest places in America, and finding Spainish friends any white people at all, would be next to impossible. Looks like I’m smarter than you thought TM, I just couldn’t reveal the real for my pick because my source said I had to keep it quiet. So one day later my mock draft stays intact! Can’t say the same for the “concensus” pick by the experts. KC Roberts and Chad Ford 1 – “Experts” and TM Williamson 0.

    Uh, no…

They’ll just trade the pick to someone that wants Rubio, obviously. Sacramento will give them the 4 and a player for the 2.

OR, I’ve heard that it’s possible that they will try to move up to #1, as the Clippers really like Rubio.

Oh, and “Rubio’s camp may be sending out feelers indicating he’s not interested in Memphis or OKC” does NOT equal “Rubio has announced that he refuses to play for Memphis or OKC.”

There has been no announcement. It is all rumour at this point. Read the whole article.

Im predicting what the teams will take, not predict trades, i dont have time like that. Rubio will be wearing a Kings Jersey in ‘09 or my name isn’t Mr. Automatic.

Well generally a mock draft predicts the position a player will be drafted at, not what team he will go to. It’s impossible to predict trades.

Again I say though, while the speculation is certainly out there (and gaining steam), there has been no announcement from Rubio or anyone in his camp that he refuses to go to Memphis or OKC.

That being said, I have heard a lot about the Grizz being very interested in Thabeet, which to me would indicate that they have some reason not to select Rubio beyond simply Mike Conley’s playing time lol.
